I am a gentle, nurturing editor, a writer of fiction and creative non-fiction, a lover of wild spaces. I’m a feminist, life-partner to Luke and dog-mom of Nikita and Oreo.
Cowichan Valley, British Columbia is my new home and I provide a variety of writing and editing services across the continent in person and via the web.
I graduated with a Bachelor of Applied Communications in Professional Writing, with Distinction, in 2012. I was happily surprised when I was awarded a Dean’s Medal for the highest marks in a degree program in my faculty.
Since 2008, I’ve held a number of communications-related positions. I was a Student Public Affairs Assistant for Land Force Western Area (Department of National Defence), assistant editor of The Western Sentinel, and most recently a reporter for the Edmonton Examiner.
I’ve had news articles published in both local and national newspapers, have had works of literary fiction and non-fiction published in Alberta and Saskatchewan and I was also the managing editor of an Edmonton-based literary journal, Other Voices.
My volunteer background is wide and varied, including organizations such as the Edmonton Folk Music Festival and CKUA Radio Network.
In October 2012, I started Aspen Gainer Communications, my freelance writing and editing business in Edmonton. In August 2013, I moved to BC where I now share my unique and varied knowledge of writing and editing in person and over the internet.
I am a member of the following organizations:
- Writers Guild of Alberta
- Professional Editors Association of Vancouver Island
- Canadian Women in Communications
- Professional Writers Association of Canada
- British Columbia Federation of Writers
